Samsung, LG to Team Up for North American Mobile DTV Standard
May 16, 2008
Korea's Samsung and LG announced on May 14 that they will jointly develop a new mobile DTV (Digital Television) technology for North America, which is due for submission to the US standard-setting organization ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) before 2009, Thomson Financial reported.

Through the alliance, LG and Samsung will unify their proprietary technologies MPH (Mobile Pedestrian Handheld) and A-VSB (Advanced-Vestigial Sideband), respectively, with the aim to propose the new standard as the industry standard in North America, Chosun Ilbo reported.

According to the same report, should the OMVC (Open Mobile Video Coalition) - an organization of leading US broadcasters - complete field trials, the ATSC is scheduled to decide on a mobile DTV standard for North America in the first half of 2009.
